A Melting Pot?

In Wednesday's class, we talked about the concept or metaphor of the United States as a melting pot. Based on your experiences in this country, what do you think? Is this country really a melting pot or is it a place where immigrants can maintain their identity and culture?

In this country you can keep your own identity and culture. It is the responsibilty certain people that want to keep there orgin. Peole them selfsneed to keep in mind who they are and where they come from. In the U.S their is noone here to force you to belive in certain things or noone that takes anything from you by force.

America is something people dream about, so many immigrants want to come to the United States. They dream about freedom of anything and dream of land. I think America is a great country for anybody, which they can share about their identity and culture. That's why America is melting pot country because they come from all of the world, specially a big city, such as New York City, Chicago, and San Fransisco. I can say that these cities are "Cities of God."

It is hard to keep your culture in this country. There are many people from different parts of the word and without noticing you start changing the way you speak or the way you dress and start celebrating days that you don’t even know about like 5 de mayo, Forth of July and many more that you would not celebrate if you where in your country.

In the U.S, most of the people came from different places around the world. These people already lost their ethnicity when they spent many years in the U.S. Nowadays, the U.S is really a melting pot of cultures. We are all from different places, but we are together. Many people don't even speak their native language anymore. Furthermore, people lose their customs and beliefs.

According to my experience, the United States is a melting pot because immigrants from all parts of the world are living here. When a person migrates to the U.S.in his twenties and up, he usually keeps his identity and culture. The reason is his brain is adjusted and accomodated in that way. For example, Spanish people and people coming from India keep their culture because their culture is their identity in every day life. But it becomes a melting pot when they have kids. The kids when they start their school, they will eventually forget their parents' culture and assimilate with U.S. culture.

I really think United States is a melting pot of cultures. People from all over the world immigrate here to the U.S. bringing their own culture willing to adapt to their new life and to the new American culture not forgeting their own culture at all, as they kept them alive in celebrating important days, believes, and current events in their country of origin. when these people ineract or start sociolazing with other people with diffent cultures as thiers, people start sharing and incopareting to new celebrations and believes, thats when different cultures start to mix in the pot.

This question Depends on your religion, your kind of culture, your generation, and your belives,so you have to understand all the view of the points. Therefore, you can say if the U.S. is a melting pot. In addition, for me is a melting pot because you absorbe other genre of music, other way of dress, also the food, and the language

I think that many people lose their culture, but people come here to this country because they are looking for a better future. I think that is ok for their children becuase they can have better opportunities. If their parents don't want them to lose their culture. parents must talk always about their habits all the time.

I think that The United States is a country where the persons can maintain their culture because all immigrants come here to work. When they work, they get to meet many people come from different countries.I have seen in this country many immmigrants and they become important people. Many people dream about to come to the United States. The first, when they come to the U.S is to find a job, for they perform their dreams.

United states its a Meling Pot, but at the same time every culture still trying to keep their identity. For example, when I came to the United States, I went to live with a Jewish family and I started school right away. The only time I see my aunt was on sundays, that wasn't enough for me to keep track of my roots. After seven years I move with my aunt and I felt srange just the same feeling i had when I move whith the Jewish family. Now I have my own opinion.

Yes, but No!
It is true that the U.S. is a kind of melting pot, but there are a lot of people who keep their culture.
It’s true because some of us talk in English, and some of us have a North American life. Some of us are looking for new cultures and new things in this country like music, different food, and freedom of thinking. However, it’s false at the same time because we can’t forget our native language and the different aspects of our original life like our music, our food, and our cultural aspects.

I think this country is a melting pot because this country has a lot of immigrants of different places from the world. For example I live in Harwood Heights, in this place there are Polish, American, Italian, Mexican, and Indian people. When these people migrate to the U.S they will always keep their culture because it is their identity. But when their kids start school it will become a melting pot. The kids will lose their culture because there are many children from different cultural backgrounds and they all learn and speak English only.

Many people want to go to the U.S
even though they were born in their country. It's better to work here than work in your country. I am sure people have different tastes. When people come to the U.S they change a lot, and they would like to stay in the U.S. These people changed from living in American society, so they are affected by American people.

I do think that United States is a melting pot for immigrants. I remember my first years here in Chicago my family and I gathered every Sunday in my mother’s house because she used to cook for us our favorite Mexican foods. Now we have more than six years living here, and when we are hungry we just buy fast food. We don’t care if it is Chinese, or Mexican food, and my mother moved to Iowa city. We visit her once a month. We have lost our family values.

There are many people come from different countries, so American culture is mixed. People continue their own culture. If somebody else like to change their culture. People make friendship with other people from other nationalities.
American's native language is English, but somebody do not know how to speak English. It will affect their friendship. Why? Because they cannot communicate each other.
